the capital, Buenos aires
This last weekend, a group of friends and I went to Buenos Aires. It was wonderful! The only negative was that we were only there for the weekend. To fully experience everything the city has to offer, we would need a lot more time! We traveled by bus, which was a 9 hour ride. I thought the ride was going to be awful and boring. We left at midnight Thursday night and surprisingly we slept all the way there. It was beautiful. I feel asleep in Cordoba and woke up in Buenos Aires. The first thing we did was get breakfast! My favorite thing about traveling is trying new places. We took a taxi to the hotel and walked down the street to the first cafe we found. I love randomly trying new places! We walked through the city and explored the capital. The photo above is of the capital building: "The Pink House." Due to renovations we were not permitted inside; however, there was a cool museum underneath that we were able to visit for free. We had lunch before returning to the hotel to check-in. Needless to say we were pooped and we needed a siesta. For dinner we used TripAdvisor to find a steak house in our price range. We traveled to el Palermo (neighborhood within Buenos Aires) to eat Calden del Soho. iQue Rico! It was was delicious! Afterwards, we enjoyed the night life in Palermo. On the way back to the hotel, my taxi driver use to live in Chicago so we had a full conversation! Maybe it was the couple of drinks I had or living here for two week, but it was the most fluent conversation I have had so far (haha). The second day we traveled el caminito en la boca. If you travel to Buenos Aires, this is a most see place! The streets are filled with tango dancers, local food and little shops. I wish we could of spent more time there.
On the way back, we made sure to get to the bus station early so we wouldn't get lost finding our terminal. Well... that didn't help us much! We almost missed our bus! At the station there is a screen with buses and platforms, but we were unaware that NOT every bus company is on the screen. So if you are ever at the Retiro Omnibus Station, the first thing you should do is go to the second floor and ask for your platform number. This way you can avoid running two laps around the platform and sprinting to your bus. As much of an adrenaline rush that it was, I would of been happy making it to the bus with more than two minutes to spare.
I think it's safe to say this past weekend will be the highlight of my trip. I can now say I have been to the largest intersection in the world, I've seen tango in the streets, eaten Argentinian steak and traveled for the first time without my family. I hope to return sometime in the future.
